Save the date: SRIP and SRIYP are coming to the Scottish Borders in the last week of October 2027

Wed, 28/10/2026 - 15:59pm

The next Scottish Rural & Islands Parliament and Scottish Rural & Islands Youth Parliament will take place in the last week of October 2027, with Galashiels chosen as the main assembly location.

Held every two years, SRIP brings together hundreds of delegates from across rural and island Scotland. It is the UK’s largest participative democratic assembly, bringing together people, organisations and politicians to share learning, exchange experiences and help shape the policy agenda.

The theme for the 6th SRIP is ‘The Power of Lived Experience’. The Parliament provides an opportunity for people from rural and island communities to share their experiences, discuss the issues that matter to them and contribute to conversations about the future of their communities.

Planning for SRIP is already underway, led by a steering group of host region and national partners working together to shape the event.

Registration will not open until 2027, but there will be opportunities to contribute to the programme, including through workshops, fringe meetings, cultural activities, volunteering and showcasing local projects as part of study trips.

A separate Advisory Board of young people will be established to design the Scottish Rural & Islands Youth Parliament. As with previous SRIPs, we will also work closely with the Scottish Islands Federation to support the participation of islanders.

Further details will be shared over the coming months.
